news updates on all seven seas
When winter turns to summer we have this time we call "I can't stand this fucking shit weather".
It's a great time with heat and sun one day and the snow, rain or slosh the next.

Gotta love this scandinavian climate, but it's allright. It's probably one of the reasons we have all the angst here.
Regardless (or because) of this I have been fairly productive.

some time ago terrorterrorexplosionexplosion nailed an live improv gig together... and during last weekend I made a "back to basics" track for [ówt krì].
A new unamed release is practically ready, just waiting for a release channel.

the biggest news is that the "Son of Mutha" rap project, or rythmically announced poetry project is again showing signs of life. A change of name is in thought as the themes are turning more serious.

Probably new [ówt krì] material will be released during the end of this year.
unamed will probably be released during 2013, unless the world comes to an end december 2012.
SoM will be available once ready... until then, check out what I have thus far...

terrorterrorexplosionexplosion "pink box" 2012 (updated 15.4.2012))

"pink box is an ongoing study of different new instruments and combos. it serves as an output for what I can develop further and connect in terms of textures and function."

"the pink box" - a more detailed tale
I guess it was around one year ago when I got a strange passion to aquire/build some kind of "own" instrument. So in taking a part needed elements and figuring out what I needed to make this happen, I found this rather cheap build kit from Velleman. http://www.velleman.eu/

The construction itself isn't all that hard if you follow instructions and have some basic tools like a soldering inron and some small pliers.

I did do some tweaks to the original version, with some assistance from a friend of mine. I changed the volume and pitch shifters to larger knobs... also the jumper based change of waveform was replaced by a knob.

A power switch was added and both signal generators were connected to only one battery. The original plan also included adding an power LED, but I... forgot.

There is an own audio jack for both signal generators and both give out an MONO signal.

For some reason ("some" => selfmade device by an amateur) the functionality of "the pink box" isn't quite 100%. Sometimes it takes a great deal of fingering the cables to get the device fired up.
But once online it works like a charm (save the other waveform chooser doesn't work... )

UPDATE: seems the problem with functionality is actually that the device suck batteries dry like a well paid prostitute.

Given I would have time and energy I would most definetly try to make an more evolved version of "the pink box" but as it stands now, I think I will go for commercial solutions next.

long time no... DOOM
It's been a while.
partly I've been plain lazy... parts is because there's been nothing to report.

Now we are getting closer to a new [ówt krì] release.
In some ways it's a view back to the beginning of my career... only 6 crazy years has gone past, but the release count is way higher.
(no)DOOM is an dooming ambient voyage through an fantasyscape towards an infinite purgatory.
It is minimal and free, just like the first releases by [ówt krì], way back to 2006 and "...time".

This week I sent the music files and additional information to Christian Huju (www.luuvaloa.com) to create the ultimate digi-cover for the release.
I will make it exclusively available on cenzu.bandcamp.com whilst finished for an pay what you want fee.

stay tuned.

DETHKLOK Co-Creator's GALAKTIKON Debut: More Details Revealed
source: Blabbermouth.net

Brendon Small, co-creator of "Metalocalypse", the smash hit animated series on Adult Swim featuring the fictitious metal band DETHKLOK, has written and produced BRENDON SMALL'S GALAKTIKON "A High Stakes Intergalactic Extreme Rock Album", the debut release from his long-awaited side project. Due in April, the CD's arrival will coincide with the Season 4 premiere of "Metalocalypse".

Coming off of the second DETHKLOK album which was heavier and darker than the first, BRENDON SMALL'S GALAKTIKON searches for melody (in the vocal) and finds inspiration in modern black metal, QUEEN, FOO FIGHTERS, SOUNDGARDEN, SMASHING PUMPKINS and WEEZER. No influence is unwelcome on this project. Brendon Small paired with DETHKLOK drummer Gene Hoglan (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, TESTAMENT, FEAR FACTORY) and DETHKLOK bassist Bryan Beller (DETHKLOK, STEVE VAI, MIKE KENEALLY) and DETHKLOK engineer and mixer Ulrich Wild.

"This album should be thought of as an audio comic book, an over acted chamber drama, a ridiculous premise that takes itself way too seriously all the way to the end," states Small.

The BRENDON SMALL'S GALAKTIKON "A High Stakes Intergalactic Extreme Rock Album" cover art was designed by Antonio Canobbio and can be seen below.

In a July 2011 interview with Revolver magazine, Small was asked at what point he decided it was time to make a solo record. "There was a time when I didn't know if I was going to do the second DETHKLOK album," he said. "I had the studio lined up, and the players lined up, and the engineer and co-producer, and all that shit, and unfortunately, the guy we were negotiating with went on vacation and left things kind of dead. So I said, 'OK, fuck this — I'm going to spend my own money and get these guys doing something.'

"I love melody and I love melodic vocals in metal, not just the guttural stuff — though obviously it works with DETHKLOK, and I wouldn't want to change a thing. I long for melody in the vocal.

"When I was developing the DETHKLOK sound, some of the things I was writing weren't heavy enough for DETHKLOK, but I still liked them. So I was like, I'm going to make this into something, so I'm going to get Gene [Hoglan] and I'm going to get Bryan Beller, and we're going to make this project, and I'm going to figure out what it is. Then the negotiations got all cleared up, and we went right back into the same studio and did the second DETHKLOK album."

Regarding whether those non-DETHKLOK songs eventually became the basis for "Brendon Small's Galaktikon", Small said, Yeah. I had all these songs where there were elements of QUEEN, but also elements of FOO FIGHTERS and SMASHING PUMPKINS, with some DIO elements as well. My kind of rule for the record was, it's going to be whatever it ends up being, and I'm going to tell a story through the whole thing. Once I started putting the pieces together, I found the story, and I realized that, OK, this is a high-stakes, intergalactic, extreme rock album. And if I do this right, it's going to be like an audio comic book. It's turned out to be something that I'm really happy to have done because I flexed a different muscles while making it — but if you're one of the kids who liked DETHKLOK, you're going to be able to tell that it's the same dude playing guitar, and Gene Hoglan on drums and Bryan Beller on bass. DETHKLOK has to be a certain kind of sound, but this other thing is whatever it needs to be. I got to pull out a vocoder and do ELO-style things here and there, and there's an instrumental on there that's a total tribute to Vai and Satriani and Yngwie and Steve Morse.

cocktease
I min ensamhet härskar jag
an ear shattering high frequency cut's into the sound spectre crushing resistance... accompanied by  drumfire to rip your sense of taste to pieces. everything is ugly loud and un-fashionable. so is the screaming!
seconds turn into minutes but the minutes are way too long. orchestrations add to the mind numbing confusion until the final feedback is dying out...

...and like a phoenix a piano riff emerges, but it goes nowhere. vocals enter the stage telling about their rule.
a range from growl to scream.
This rubbs me ...but I'm still unsure of the direction.

again... it all dies away... the end.

out of the rustles rises a solemn guitar, picking away out of any sync.
only a natural flow.
Proclamations come and ruin the affair, lest it already is ruined... until everything dies out... the first side is dead.

Nasum
From http://www.nasum.com/

"

If things were different, if Mieszko hadn't died, Nasum would have celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012, believe it or not. Therefore, and after long deliberation and scrutiny, we have decided that it's now or never: Nasum will do a handful of shows and festival gigs around the world in 2012 - to celebrate our anniversary, say a final goodbye to the fans and Mieszko.

No cheesy reunion, no new albums, no epitaph for Mieszko. We will play only a few cities and festivals in a limited number of disruptive, unruly concerts.

It will be a total blast, and we aim to go out hard. Just you wait.

When lead singer Mieszko Talarczyk disappeared and died in the devastating and tragic tsunami of 2004, Nasum instantly ceased to exist. As the band's voice, producer and one of the main songwriters, Mieszko was a vital part of Nasum's bloodline. When he passed, all plans for tours and recordings were abruptly stopped. Nasum died when Mieszko died, and the rest of the band members went their separate ways.
But in the years that passed, the feeling that everything had been left unfinished lingered with the rest of us. Suddenly seven years had passed, and we realized it was time for closure; for us, the band and for the fans. With our anniversary coming up it felt like a perfect time to end Nasum the way it was supposed to - exploding in a ferocious, blasting frenzy, not wither away at the mercy of tragedy. And finally we are ready, able and totally fucking charged, so expect something over the top. The shows will be a varied, intense mix of the best songs from this colossus of grind.
To handle vocal duties on the upcoming shows we have asked Keijo Niinimaa, vocalist in Finnish grind faves Rotten Sound, to join us. They were always close friends of Nasum, and while Keijo's plagued screams won't replace Mieszko, they will add a crippling viciousness to the shows. On a few occasions, we might ask a few other close friends of Nasum to do some vocal sessions. Who? Wait and see!

Note this: if you ever wanted to see Nasum blast shit to bits, this is your last and only chance.

Anders Jakobson - drums
Jesper Liveröd - bass and low vocals
Jon Lindqvist - guitars and low vocals
Urban Skytt - guitars
Keijo Niinimaa - vocals

COHEED & CAMBRIA frontman debuts new zombie comic
Claudio Sanchez, frontman for US progressive rockers COHEED & CAMBRIA, debuts his zombie-themed comic series.
Sanchez is no stranger to the comic world, having created and penned "The Amory Wars" and "Kill Audio", which have been perfect companions to Coheed & Cambria’s mythology-laden albums.
He now launches "Key Of Z", a comic set in a divided New York City, overrun by zombies. He co-wrote it with Chondra Echert, who also worked on "Kill Audio", with covers provided by Nathan Fox (of Fluorescent Black) and Tony Moore (of The Walking Dead) and artwork by Aaron Kuder, who worked on "The Amory Wars".
The first issue of "Key Of Z" is available in comic shops and digitally on the comiXology platform.
Into the nerdy bargain, C&C have had new song ‘Deranged’ included on a Collector’s Edition of the Batman: Arkham City video game.
ULVER: 'The Norwegian National Opera' DVD, Blu-Ray Detailed

Kscope has set a November 28 release date for "Live In Concert: The Norwegian National Opera" DVD and Blu-ray from ULVER.

Early pioneer of Norwegian black metal, ULVER has continually evolved throughout its career and now inhabits a place entirely its own, blending rock, pop, electronica, symphonic and classical traditions along with progressive and/or avant-garde forms to create ground-breaking material. Until recently, however, the band had remained exclusively within the studio. This changed in May 2009 when the band accepted an invitation to appear at the Norwegian Festival of Literature. The success of this gig lead to them embarking on a string of other gigs in 2009 and 2010, selling out prestigious venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Volksbühne in Berlin and La Cigale in Paris before they returned to their homeland for a landmark gig at The Norwegian Opera House.

The two-hour concert marries tracks from throughout the band's catalogue to stunning visuals to create a spectacle fitting for such a grand venue. The evening was captured on six HD cameras and the audio has been mixed for this release in the band's own Crystal Canyon Studios. It is packaged in a limited-edition 32-page rigid digibook two-disc set (Blu-ray and DVD)

Three Evening Concerts of Raga Darbari in the contemporary Kirana gharana (style) of North Indian Classical Music will be performed by La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela with The Just Alap Raga Ensemble in a memorial tribute in honor of Pandit Pran Nath's 93rd birthday, Saturday Evenings, October 29, November 5 and 12, 2011, at 9 pm in the MELA Foundation Dream House light environment, 275 Church Street, 3rd Floor.  PLEASE NOTE:  To prepare for the scheduled concerts the Dream House will be closed from October 20 - November 12; we will reopen Thursday, November 17.

La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela will be accompanied by Jung Hee Choi, voice; Naren Budhkar, tabla; and The Tamburas of Pandit Pran Nath from the Just Dreams CD.  Young and Zazeela premiered The Just Alap Raga Ensemble on August 22, 2002 in a memorial tribute to Ustad Hafizullah Khan, the Khalifa of the Kirana Gharana and son of Pandit Pran Nath’s teacher, Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan Sahib.  The Ensemble will perform Pandit Pran Nath's special arrangement of a traditional composition, "Hazrat Turkaman" set in Raga Darbari.

Pandit Pran Nath has said, "Alap is the essence of Raga.  When the drut [faster tempo] begins, the Raga is finished."  With The Just Alap Raga Ensemble, La Monte Young applies his own compositional approach to traditional raga performance, form and technique: a pranam (bow) of gratitude in reciprocation for the influence on his music, since the mid-fifties, of the unique, slow, unmetered timeless alap, and for one of the most ancient and evolved vocal traditions extant today.  Similar to his previous concerts with The Just Alap Raga Ensemble that featured extended alap sections in just intonation over tamburas, La Monte introduces sustained drones in two- and three-part harmony, and even counterpoint in the pre-composition part of the alap.

With deep respect for Pandit Pran Nath’s arrangement of this great composition, "Hazrat Turkaman," La Monte has composed two-part harmony for the ‘sthayi and for the antara.  As in La Monte’s composition, “Raga Sundara,”a vilampit khayal set in RagaYaman Kalyan, this two-part harmony in Raga Darbari comprises the inception of a new element in Indian classical music.   These harmony lines for the compositions are the introduction of two-part harmony into Indian classical khayal composition. The harmony for the ‘sthayi of "Hazrat Turkaman" was composed as a birthday present for Young and Zazeela's disciple Jung Hee Choi on her birthday, November 1, 2009 and the harmony for the antara is dedicated to Pandit Pran Nath and was composed on his 91st Birthday, November 3, 2009.

Pandit Pran Nath virtually introduced the vocal tradition of North Indian classical music to the West in 1970.  His 1971 morning performance at Town Hall, New York City, was the first concert of morning ragas to be presented in the U.S.  Subsequently, he introduced and elaborated to Western audiences the concept of performing ragas at the proper time of day by scheduling entire series of concerts at special hours.  Many students and professional musicians came to him in America to learn about the vast system of raga and to improve their musicianship.  In 1972, Pran Nath established his own school in New York City under the direction of his disciples La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, the Kirana Center for Indian Classical Music, now a project of MELA Foundation.  Over the years Pran Nath performed hundreds of concerts in the West, scores of them in New York City, and in Fall 1993, he inaugurated the MELA Foundation Dream House with three Raga Cycle concerts.  He continued to perform here annually during his remaining years and on May 12 and 17, 1996, his two concerts of Afternoon and Evening Ragas in the Dream House were his last public performances before he passed away on June 13, 1996.

Pran Nath's majestic expositions of the slow alap sections of ragas combined with his emphasis on perfect intonation and the clear evocation of mood had a profound impact on Western contemporary composers and performers.  Following Young and Zazeela, minimalist music composer Terry Riley became one of his first American disciples.  Fourth-world trumpeter Jon Hassell, jazz all‑stars Don Cherry and Lee Konitz, composers Jon Gibson, Yoshimasa Wada, Rhys Chatham, Michael Harrison and Allaudin Mathieu, Sufi Pir Shabda Kahn, mathematician and composer Christer Hennix, concept artist and violinist Henry Flynt, dancer Simone Forti, and many others took the opportunity to study with the master.

In The Hindustan Times (2003), Shanta Serbjeet Singh wrote:

“[Young and Zazeela] would create works like the “Just Alap Raga Ensemble” which would amaze musicians of the caliber of Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jasraj or the Gundecha brothers were they to hear it.  In fact I wish they would hear it and savour their own legacy of Indian classical music in two new ways, one, by way of the Youngs’ immense sadhna and two, by way of the fact that today the great art of Hindustani Shastriya sangeet has actually become so much a part of the world of music.  Did not the ancients say: Vasudeva Kumutbhakam—the world is a family?  A work like “Just Alap Raga Ensemble” actually proves it.”

In the 2005 article, “TALES OF EXEMPLARY GURU BHAKTI / PRAN NATH, LA MONTE YOUNG AND MARIAN ZAZEELA,” SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) quarterly magazine "The Eye," it is noted:

“He [Young] is a master of Hindustani classical music.  … La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, founders of the MELA Foundation Dream House in New York are responsible for having single-handedly introduced vocal Hindustani classical music to America.  In 1970 when they brought renowned master vocalist Pandit Pran Nath of the Kirana Gharana to the U.S. and became his first Western disciples, studying with him for twenty-six years in the traditional gurukula manner of living with the guru, Americans and Westerners only had a nodding acquaintance with Indian music, that too, only instrumental music through the performing tours of Pandit Ravi Shankar.  Also some introduction to Indian rhythm techniques through the charismatic playing of Pandit Chatur Lal, the tabla player who always accompanied Ravi Shankar through the sixties.  But the deep, unfathomable intricacies of Khayal Gayaki and of the whole cosmos of Alap were totally unknown to them.  Indeed, as his many American shishyas, most of them practicing musicians themselves, would say later, even unimaginable. … Young and Zazeela, who taught the Kirana style and performed with Pandit Pran Nath since 1970 in hundreds of concerts in India, Iran, Europe and the United States, have continued their Guru’s work in the most exemplary manner.  In June 2002, shortly before he died, Khalifa Hafizullah Khan Sahib, Ustad Wahid Khan Sahib’s son and a great sarangi master, conferred on Young the title of Khan Sahib.”

American Music, Winter 2009, reviewed the Ensemble's March performance at the Guggenheim Museum: "the most striking innovation appeared when the ensemble returned to the beginning of the composition later on.  In that repetition and each one thereafter, Young and his ensemble--in a bold deviation from traditional North Indian monophony--sang and played in two-part harmony.  ...in the context of raga performance, this harmonization, combined with the ethereal polytonal quality of Raga Yaman, lent the ensemble a breathtakingly lush quality with each return of the refrain."

In his LA Times Blog, critic Mark Swed wrote of the Ensemble's performance of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra in Raga Sindh Bhairavi:  "Frankly, what made me drop everything and fly to New York at the last minute for the [Merce Cunningham] memorial was the announcement of the music lineup, which was a once-in-a-life-time gathering. La Monte Young, the otherworldly inventor of Minimalism, began the program singing a welcoming raga with Marian Zazeela and Jung Hee Choi, which was pure vibratory magic."

Concert admission is $36 / $28 MELA members; seniors; students with ID.  Limited seating.  Advance reservations recommended.  For further information and reservations, 212-219-3019, email mail@melafoundation.org orvisit http://cts.vresp.com/c/?MELAFoundationInc./8c113e7e24/a40765d0ae/f503118e0c/MELAFoundationInc./82f04aa3b7/383ebc5f9c/b0b19df730/MELAFoundationInc./3799339157/99c5311850/f399d78e54.

"Pay attention, Haters. Now is the time…

We have traveled this road before…
As we suspected, our collaboration with Season Of Mist is no more. We thank them so much for believing in us and for putting our name out there better than any of the other labels we have been on. I was sure this was going to happen, though, that’s why I have tried to get an answer from them about this during the last month or two now when I am in the middle of composing for the next recording. The reason why I wanted to check this so early is becoz I didn’t wanna end up with an album’s worth of excellent material and then find out they can’t release it, meaning the stuff would be delayed for months and months and months before you get to hear it. That’s not how Chuck Norris would have worked it, you know.
So, why the split? It’s certainly not due to second-level music. We wouldn’t know how to create such crap. And it’s certainly not becoz we didn’t get amazing reviews for our latest album “Bleeding the new apocalypse”, coz we sure did. The simple truth is – we sell 1/10 of what we used to do some 5-10 years back. And we’re not the only ones in this situation, unfortunately. And what’s the cause for this? You already know what it is – illegal downloading. The majority of people simply do not give a fuck about buying actual albums anymore, meaning the bands sell less, the labels don’t get their invested money back and ultimately this leads to said labels not being able to take chances since they know they’ll lose money. As said, you already know this, I need not elaborate much further. Some claim that “the music is out there for you to take” and “sharing is caring”. Sure, if the band do so by free will, like we do in Torture Division, I have no problem with it. But unfortunately TPH can’t record our stuff for free to have it meet the standards we want.
So what’s next for us? I seriously do not know. Or I kind of know. It’s not like I am giving up creating music (hell, I guess you have been following the process of writing for our next recording, right?), that’s just not an option. I live for this shit, you know.
So, will there be another TPH album in actual physical format? As it looks, I don’t think so. After all these years that we have been putting out albums I can safely say that I have had it with chasing labels and proving we’re worth a deal. We already know we are. We know what we do is excellent and unique, and yeah – so do you. But no matter how much I burn for making and recording music – I simply can’t do it all without funds. I can’t bring TPH into a bunch of different studios for each recording and think the owners of those studios believe it’s a great idea to work for free for weeks just to hand me a finished product becoz I am super cool and utterly awesome, working with 3 other just as super cool and utterly awesome guys (well, 2 guys and one gal, to be correct…). Nope, it doesn’t fly like that. To record TPH and make it what I want it to be costs come money. Is it a lot of dough? Compared to what it used to cost a few years back for a band at this level (and I do not believe we’re a big band if that’s what you thought) – nope, it’s not. It’s not even a ton of money in the grand scheme of things. But it’s definitely too much for me to pay myself. And you all know TPH is my vision, hence why I say “myself” when it comes to things like this, coz none of the other heroes in the band should ever have to pay a single dime. If anything, they should be paid for helping me perfect what I have in mind music wise. But that would be a completely new donation thing altogether, haha… I am just happy I have the chance to have these people, my closest friends, in this – supporting me no matter what, for reasons only *insert religious figure of choice* knows.
I am not going to approach any labels this time. I have had it with that. I’m fed up with it. I feel sorry for the labels who can’t even get their invested money back and it’s not worth all the hassle and contracts and whatnot to release one album and then split with them. We’ve done that already. Too many times. Fuck it. There are thousands of useless bands out there releasing album after album, but there are also a fuckload of excellent ones never getting the chance. We have gotten the opportunity to release albums for over 10 years, and for that I am thankful. But now I have had it with that shit, as mentioned. The physical copy obviously means nothing today to the people who once purchased albums.
So, what options do we have? The TPH Donation Experiment that we tried a few years ago actually looked like it was going to work (which was an absolute shock). But that only dealt about recording the album, not actually pressing CD’s for you to be able to hold physically in your hands. That would cost more. If this donation thing was to be started again, the album would be all digital. And considering sales today (again, not just for us – for most bands), it comes as no surprise that this prolly doesn’t matter one fucken bit. Would people actually give 2 shits about helping out to make this music come alive? If it was about my fave band, or if I was just being a fan of great music in general – I know I would help out becoz I like great music. But I am not people and people are not me.
The TPH Donation Experiment is on, that is the bottom line. And this time it will run until we reach our goal that we need to finance the next recording. So how much do we need in all to bring this album into reality? Around 25.000-35.000 SEK. That’s around 4000-5000 dollars, or something. Will we get to that? No fucken idea. That all depends on you who give a shit about another TPH album. There’s still quite some time before we will record it (follow the process on the writing on this site and our forums), but the plans have always been to do it during 2012, and considering how excellent the composing is going – it’s safe to say it will happen if the funds are there. I would NEVER rip anyone off, you know this by now. If we see that during this time up until when we plan to start tracking the album, we don’t reach the goal for the money needed – all money will be returned to their donators. I will also keep you updated how the donations are stacking up, if they are that is. And I’ll do it by every 200 dollars coming in so you know where we are at. Have this been tried before? To have fans and supporters of the band actually make the album happen, even if it’s not a physical product? Did it work in the past, if so? Will it work now? I don’t know… I have no fucken idea at all actually, but it’ll be interesting to see what comes out of it, and perhaps it’s a sign of what’s to come for the future. 6 million years from now people might say “- Hey, remember those Swedes and that Portuguese gal from TPH? They did some real groundbreaking shit back in the day!”. Then again, maybe not, huh? Anyways, you feel this is something that is doable? It’s all in your hands now.
If you wanna be a part of this experiment, the best way to make your donations would obviously be thru PayPal at theprojecthate@gmail.com.
No matter how much or how little you donate, when the album is recorded, mixed and mastered (sometime in 2012) we’ll hand you a download link for it (just hand us your e-mail that we can save for this occasion), in FLAC and high quality mp3′s of course, and then it’s up to you to do what you want with it when you have it. Keep it to yourself, spread it, treasure it like your bastard child, tell people they can have it from you if they donate a buck to cancer research or our next recording, whatever you see fit suits us fine. This business never made us much money in the first place, but today it doesn’t even get us enough money to record the music we burn for and believe you deserve to hear. That’s how it looks at this level. It’s very, very sad,  but “it is what it is” as UFC head honcho Dana White would say. If this doesn’t work, then “Bleeding the new apocalypse” was the last album you got to hear from us, obviously. That just wouldn’t be fair to anyone. No, seriously – it wouldn’t.
We’ll see where this leads eventually. In the meantime, I have some music to write.
Thanx for the support so far, Haters. It’s very appreciated.

Update September 21st: A few people have asked for an eventual deadline when it comes to the donations, since they don’t have money right now but still want to support The Hate as soon as they have the cash. Let us put it like this: Well, we can’t record until we have the funds, but the plans are to track Tobben in April, 2012. We can do vocals and whatnot before that, but that’s all depending on the donations if we can afford the studios.

[ówt krì] "Anointed" 2011

"The soundtrack was comissioned by artist/indie director Reimalihavainen for the messianic movie Anointed.
In addition to soundtrack duties I also appear quite frequently on the movie."

Soundtrack time
I've been playbing in some bass lines and improv vocals for a shortmovie soundtrack.
I think the result will be seen soon enough on Reima Lihavainen's youtube page... but while waiting you might as well enjoy this one:

SoM hard at work with debute solo work
During the last weeks the first four tracks of Son of Mutha's debute solo material has been worked on.
The backgrounds are trippy, strange and parts noisy... but bad news is that only two of the songs have the vocals somewhat on par.

during september we will try to remake the vocals for "Orgy of Disgust" and "Of ignorance"
stay tuned!

The coming Son of Mutha release will mark the forst works by him since the last releases by Mutha Disco Posse in 2007. MDP is now defunct with it's Finnish parodic gangsta rap ethics, but the spirit lives on in the solos of Son of Mutha though taking the music to a more serious level.

the bastard Son of Mutha
It's been a long time coming and changed it's form like a chameleon along the road. now finally the shit is packing and we are about to go live with Son of Mutha's aggressive spoken word/rap manifesto.
[ówt krì] and other collaborators have been hard at work with providing the ample backings for this project.
The highest mountain to climb turned out to be the vocal recordings and finding the right frame of mind for the now 30year old rapper to grasp at aggressions of the youth.

"You really can't go around shouting curses left and right unless you get into a certain frame of mind. On the other hand the material has been around for so long that I didn't want to leave it out and just rework everything.
Life has changed through paternity and other changes in life, but the basic thought is still there. I just had to grab it and pull it out of my ass!"

Unamed
The photo session was a success. also the vocal recordings for "Rittvungen" was superb. now to finish up the vocals of "I ett naturligt tillstånd" and the composing of the b-side "I min ensamhet härskar jag"

stuff will be updated later on.

Awarded pieces of Joensuu Soundscape Composition Contest 2011

Joensuu Soundscape Composition Contest 2011, held along Popkatu street festival (www.popkatu.fi), has now had its first winners. The jury gathered to decide on the awarded pieces on Wed 13th July 2011 and reached an unanimous decision. The winner of the contest is Jenni Hanikka with the piece ”Oneness”. She also won an extra prize by audience voting.
-          - This work did what it says on the tin: made minimalistic, meditative music to make people relaxed.  It harmonized the atmosphere of the street – everything worked harmonically, rhythmically, and seemed to pull everything in, John Wynne, head of the jury, concluded late on Wednesday.
Second prize was awarded to ”Everyone is a sheep until becoming wolf” by Joel Chételat. This work commended cleverly the local atmosphere by installing not only sounds of wolves, almost stereotypical of Joensuu, but also sheep herds that referred ironically to the typical crowds in the commercial streets.

Third prize was, after a long consideration, split to to works: ”Douro River” by Virgilio Oliveira and ”Public Bodies” by Sam Salem. Both of the works succeeded to blend into the ordinary soundscape of Joensuu city and also to create new shades in it.

The artistic level and the diversity of the works submitted was considered considerably high by the jury. Many of the finalist works answered well to the competition call and the yearly theme of ”Moving Localities”, which encouraged the contestants to reflect the possibilities of sound, art and digital communication to challenge, overcome and reshape geographical configurations.

There were 143 works from 24 countries submitted to the contest. After the preliminary round, nine finalists were selected and heard in the pedestrian zone of Joensuu city center from 11th till 13th July 2011. The final jury consisted of sound artist John Wynne (head of the jury), composer Petri Kuljuntausta, sound designer Juha Linna and professor of cultural research Helmi Järviluoma-Mäkelä.

Jury comments:

1st Prize & Audience Prize: Jenni Hanikka: Oneness

"It does what it says on the tin": made minimalistic, meditative music to make people relaxed.  It harmonized the atmosphere of the street – everything worked harmonically, rhythmically, and seemed to pull everything in. It didn’t dominate the space but took part in the soundscape, and there was still space for local sounds. It gave a different sense of time passing in the space. The piece genially transforms the place.

2nd Prize: Joel Chételat: Everyone is a sheep until becoming wolf

It is one of the few submissions that really had a sense of humour. There was a sort of lightness – it didn’t take itself too seriously. It used the spatial possibilities of this specific system more than any of  the submissions. It ‘activates’ the listener – if s(h)e wants to experience the whole piece, s(h)e has to walk through the streets.  It makes you aware of the full scope. The listeners can make their own “mix” of the piece. The simplicity and clarity of the concept was excellent. It is both funny and sinister at the same time.

3rd Prize (split): Virgilio Oliveira: Douro River

It answered well into the contest call by bringing a distant soundscape to the local space. Even without knowing where it was recorded, it brought an interesting sense of another place into the location. Well crafted. It really flows well, like a river. Quite interesting confusion at times with the ambient sounds:  there were times where you couldn’t tell whether what you were hearing was in the piece or on the street.

3rd Prize (split): Sam Salem: Public Bodies

Very accomplished piece that was quite surprising in the context. The sounds in themselves seemed to come out from nowhere. Like the other awarded pieces, it worked really well with the existing sounds. It brought a unique and interesting  sense of strangeness to the atmosphere in the street. The piece could be conceived as a rather abstract intervention in the urban space. It’s sparseness allowed space for the existing local sounds.
Mixing and mastering galore
Mixing and mastering duties have been fullfilled during a few nights and the William Anker Associations debute effort will be released soon enough.

There are some tracks that still hang low in the scale as to be released or not and some minor tweaking will be done.

heads up. I'm hoping on a august 1. release on this one!
As you might have been informed earlier on Unamed is working on a new release. the definitive follow-up to "En jävla bördan" will be released as ltd. edt. c-cassette "I ett naturligt tillstånd".

Also in the works is a kind of one off sidetrack to release policies featuring special collaborations that will thus far remain uncredited.

It shall be huge!!!

also a promoshoot session is scheduled for the release of "I ett naturligt tillstånd".

Stay tuned for more coming up.

May 2011
It's been a long time quiet and a massive storm is rising.
My friend Christian is puting some effort into finnishing  the coverarts to the next [ówt krì] release.
"200" will be the magnificen title of the said release.

Also I am working on a composition for a competition.
We will see how it turns out and if I will emerge victorious. I've received a ton of help from friends and allies and whatnots.

I will later post the official thanks list here with all names and links where possible.
It's a blessing to be surrounded by people I can trust to help me where needed.

Unamed will also be working on new material soon. the latest effort "En Jävla Bördan" was released as a limited edition MC and CD-r (1 copy each) and was sent out to a dear friend of mine.

so I think this is what I have in store for you today... I will try to update more frequently in the future.

-K
All hands on deck!
I need help with a future project that I'm going to make for a soundscape composition competition.

The theme is "Changing localities" and I'm thinking about gathering samples of people with different nationalities who tell about their views about humanity/society in their native tongue.

so why am I rambling?
I need the input of people with different nationalities to help me out getting the samples.

of course I would also appreciate to get a written version in english that goe's through the rough version of things being said.

Anyone interested in participating?

There will most likely be no fame nor fortune in this, as I don't see me likely to win and don't make sound art for money, but I promise to put out a thanks to all of the participants on my website.

the mark of a new Era!
This will be the mark of a new era.

[ówt krì] will move to report latest news and progressions on this here service from now on.
The thing is that updating and connecting with myspace has become a royal pain-in-the-ass and there shall be no more of that.

Now and further this blog will not only feature my poetry, but also incorporate full newscastings of everything happening in the world of outcry as I have the time and energy to report.

...so to the subject.

Kenneth K (composer extraordiaire) is putting finnishing touches on the release "TEOSA" and a´fter that will start working to arrange the release of "Asante".

terrorterrorexplosionexplosion (noise collective) is working on two releases. A x-mas single and as a small present the enviromental noise release "office", due to be released november/december.

[ówt krì] is on a hiatus... for now. next releases from [ówt krì] will emerge in 2011 and there are some plans for that already. I don't want to write up too large lines... but there are some things brewing.

William Anker (Association / Nude) The W.Anker Ass. is still in demo phase, with no clear recording schedule. The lineup is also still a mystery, but once studio and recording time can be found things will start rocking. W.Anker Nude is a project that will build up from two EP's. It will be drone/soundscapes with distorted frail vocals on top. this will be the essence of William... NUDE!

I hope to get my schedules done so that I can give you guys 3 or 4 releases before the year end.
But on the other hand, that might be too positive.

anyways. there are 2 affirmitive releases, so heads up for those!
